Student Spotlight: Maili Barber (IP LL.M.)
Maili Barber (Intellectual Property LL.M.) came back to the University of Washington after a 20-year break. She earned her undergraduate degree at the Seattle campus in 2002, while also coxing the top-ranked UW Women’s rowing team for four years. Upon becoming a lawyer in 2006, she began her legal career working for—and on behalf of—several Western Washington municipalities.
Eventually, Barber’s interests evolved over time. While she found a career in the courtroom representing cities rewarding, the draw of an intellectual property focus brought her to UW Law’s graduate program. Working full-time and attending law school hasn’t deterred Barber from pursuing a new passion, and her coursework has already had real-life applications as a deputy city attorney for the city of Sumner, Washington.
